Ivan Popov · Founder of IvanLabs
Platform & Growth Infrastructure Advisor focused on revenue-critical web platforms.
I have worked in web and systems engineering for more than 20 years across backend architecture, platform performance, technical SEO, migrations, and search-driven growth infrastructure.
Today I work directly with founders and engineering leaders through IvanLabs when those systems begin interacting in ways that create material reliability, search visibility, scaling, or migration risk.

Who is Ivan Popov?
Ivan Popov is the founder and principal advisor at IvanLabs, an independent Platform & Growth Infrastructure Advisory practice focused on revenue-critical web platforms.
I’m based in Larnaca, Cyprus, and I’m typically brought in when platforms reach the point where traffic, complexity, or revenue exposure makes existing systems fragile — and where performance, search visibility, migrations, and architecture can no longer be treated as separate problems.
What is IvanLabs?
IvanLabs is my independent Platform & Growth Infrastructure Advisory practice.
The work focuses on revenue-critical web platforms where architecture, technical SEO, performance, migrations, and growth infrastructure cannot be treated as isolated workstreams.
Engagements are structured around the problem: a defined Platform Intelligence Audit when diagnosis is unclear, focused Migration & Redesign Oversight when a consequential change is ahead, or ongoing fractional advisory when important decisions continue over time.
How the Work Evolved
Engineering foundations
Years spent building and maintaining web applications, backend systems, data pipelines, and production infrastructure created the engineering foundation. My advisory perspective comes from engineering systems — not from treating search or performance as isolated marketing disciplines.
Search became an architecture problem
As platforms and URL inventories grew, technical SEO increasingly depended on rendering, internal links, platform architecture, performance, and deployment behavior rather than isolated page-level optimization. The interesting failures stopped being content problems and became systems problems.
Advisory became the natural operating model
The work increasingly involved diagnosing decisions that crossed engineering, search, growth, and migration boundaries rather than delivering isolated implementation tickets. Fractional advisory is the model that fits that class of problem: direct senior judgment, with execution staying where it belongs — in the client’s team.
Where to Verify the Work
- Selected Work — technical engagement evidence: situation, work performed, outcomes
- Advisory Notes — first-hand technical writing organized by problem domain
- Platform Intelligence — the diagnostic methodology behind engagements
- IvanLabs on GitHub — the practice’s public engineering work
- GitHub — personal public technical work

Core Areas of Work
Platform Performance & Technical SEO
- Diagnosing and fixing Core Web Vitals and crawlability issues
- SEO-safe migrations, redesigns, and architectural changes
- Site architecture audits for large or legacy platforms
- Ensuring performance and search stability as traffic scales
Search & Acquisition Architecture
- Search-demand and competitive coverage analysis
- Content architecture, internal linking, and query-intent mapping
- Data-driven content strategies aligned with how buyers actually search
Platform Architecture & Engineering
- Backend systems, data pipelines, and platform foundations (Python, PHP, REST APIs)
- Systems designed for reliability, not just throughput
- Supporting growth without accumulating invisible technical debt
Edge Security & Traffic Infrastructure
- Reverse proxy architecture, WAF operations (Caddy, OWASP Coraza), and origin protection
- Deployment governance for edge configuration: typed intent, health-gated rollouts, tested rollback
- Building ProxyLax, an edge security platform, currently in pre-launch engineering
Advisory Engagement Model
I work in fractional or advisory roles supporting founders, engineering leaders, and growth teams dealing with scale-related technical risk.
The three engagement shapes:
- Platform Intelligence Audit — when the root cause, baseline, or priority is unclear
- Migration & Redesign Oversight — when the change itself creates the risk
- Fractional Platform Advisory — when your team can execute but needs ongoing senior judgment
Engagements are typically structured as monthly retainers or fixed-scope advisory periods.
Who I Typically Work With
- Series A–C startups scaling rapidly
- SaaS and marketplace platforms dependent on organic acquisition
- High-traffic web platforms undergoing modernization
- Engineering teams preparing for major migrations or redesigns
- Companies where performance, reliability, and search visibility directly affect revenue
What the Advisory Model Is Designed For
IvanLabs is designed for teams that already have execution capacity and need direct senior judgment across platform decisions. Findings, baselines, and roadmaps are built to remain useful whether your internal team executes, another implementation partner does, or the engagement continues.
What I Don’t Do
This is intentional:
- I’m not a generalist freelancer for small projects
- I don’t sell hours or ticket-based development
- I don’t build “AI demos” without a production path
I work best where systems, performance, and revenue are tightly coupled.
How I Work
- Senior individual contributor — all work performed directly
- Short feedback loops, clear tradeoffs
- Focus on root causes, not surface metrics
- Minimal process, maximum clarity
- Retainer or fixed-scope engagements preferred
- Supported by internal platform intelligence systems for rapid diagnostics
Technical Background (Condensed)
- Languages: Python, Rust, PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript
- Frameworks: Django, FastAPI, Axum, Zola
- Systems: Docker, Linux, CI/CD, Cloudflare, Caddy
- Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis
- AI (applied): PyTorch, Transformers, LLM integrations, local LLMs — used as diagnostic machinery inside engagements, not as the offer
Details emerge in conversation — not checklists.

I work with a limited number of teams at a time and prioritize advisory engagements where platform stability and growth are tightly coupled.
About FAQ
Who is Ivan Popov?
Ivan Popov is the founder and principal advisor at IvanLabs, an independent Platform & Growth Infrastructure Advisory practice focused on revenue-critical web platforms. He has worked in web and systems engineering for more than 20 years across backend architecture, platform performance, technical SEO, migrations, and search-driven growth infrastructure.
What is IvanLabs?
IvanLabs is Ivan Popov's advisory practice, focused on technical SEO, platform performance, migration risk, architecture, and growth infrastructure where those systems interact. Engagements are structured as a defined Platform Intelligence Audit, focused Migration & Redesign Oversight, or ongoing fractional advisory.
Does Ivan work directly on engagements?
Yes. All advisory work is performed directly by Ivan as a senior individual contributor — there is no team handoff, account management layer, or delegated delivery.
What kind of platforms does Ivan work with?
Primarily revenue-critical web platforms where search visibility, reliability, performance, migrations, or architecture materially affect growth — typically SaaS, marketplaces, and high-traffic or legacy platforms at Series A–C stage.
Does IvanLabs replace an engineering team or agency?
No. The model is designed to strengthen decisions and oversight. Internal teams or implementation partners continue to own delivery — findings and baselines are designed to remain useful regardless of who executes.
Where can I see examples of the work?
Selected Work publishes technical case studies covering the situation, work performed, and outcomes — including the ProxyLax edge security platform engineering work. See ivanlabs.com/selected-work/.
Where can I read Ivan's technical writing?
Advisory notes are organized by problem domain at ivanlabs.com/topics/ — technical SEO and search infrastructure, migrations and redesign risk, platform architecture, performance and reliability, and platform intelligence and diagnostics.
What is the best first engagement?
It depends on the uncertainty. Use the Platform Intelligence Audit when the root cause or priority is unclear, Migration & Redesign Oversight when the change itself creates the risk, and fractional advisory when consequential decisions continue over time.
